Keep Dreaming

How are your dreams going?

I seem to be dreaming more than ever these days, particularly about individual people and seeing their struggles and victories. In one dream I saw a person talking to me and words that were coming out were like different coloured flowers, but as they fell to the ground it turned very dark and rotten and some even had an offensive smell! In my dream the Lord showed me that that entire person was saying were lies in different forms! Strange? But turned out to be true within the next 24 hours!

Before I go any further let me give you some key facts:

  • Nearly one-third of the Bible relates to visions and dreams
  • God has always spoke to His people in dreams
  • There are 224 Scriptures mentioning dreams and visionsImage
  • The Opening of the New Testament, the first 2 Chapters of Matthew, contains five recorded dreams and gives the concerned individuals powerful warnings, advice and directions

Sometime ago I read a book where the writer was sharing as to why he believed that dreams and visions are not for today, and that God does not speak to us as He did either in

the Old Testament or the days of the New Testament. He said that dreams were superstitious, and dangerous!

Wow! How ignorant can people of this generation be!

Dreams are still very essential and will become more and more significant in these last days. In fact in the OT and the NT, that is in Joel 2:24 and Acts 2:17, the Bible says, “It shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young people shall see visions and your old people shall dream dreams.” And then again in Heb 1:1-2…“God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.” The original Greek word for ‘different ways’ is polutropos’ which actually comes from two words… ‘polus’ which means ‘in super-abundance, multitudinous or plenteous’ and ‘tropos’ which means “turning, adopting a new manner”

So we can safely say that God does speak to His Church in countless ways, and that dreams and visions are included!

But hear this…we must be careful too! Jeremiah 29:8 tells us to “Be aware and don’t act or dwell on dreams which you cause to be dreamed,” (underlining mine), in other words, ‘soulish’ dreams. If you study these dreams carefully you will know that your own soul is coming forth in the dream…and the enemy is interfering with you. Soulish dreams actually are related to people who always walk in an unforgiving, or a critical, or a judgemental spirit that is mixed up with unchanging attitudes and false humility. That is why Paul says…“Test all things; hold fast to what is good.” 1 Thess 5:21. Furthermore, Ecclesiastes 5:3 ESV, says…For a dream comes with much business, and a fool’s voice with many words. In understanding this we must look at the context. God is saying, listen rather than speak…it is better if your words are few and carefully spoken during the daytime, otherwise it will overflow into your dreams at night!

There is much more I can say. But not now.

And in closing, let me remind you that interpreting dreams is not for everyone. The Bible says that, God gives gifts unto men as He pleases and it’s vitally important to receive a dream interpretation from a Spirit filled Christian who is known by his or her Pastor or Leader. There are different gifts for people of the Body of Christ and we must trust and rely on each other to fill those needs.
