OF KINGS AND CAUTION

Someone said…work is love made visible!

I have noticed that people who reach ‘on top’, whether they be chefs, artists, musicians or whatever, really enjoy what they do. They don’t really work as we think so, they enjoy themselves in doing what they love to do. They can do that without ever getting bored or tired or even lazy about that.

Again, somebody said…never continue what you don’t enjoy.

If you are truly happy with what you are doing, your health, temperament and overall attitude to life will be greater than what you have ever known in your past.

Me, I’ve, noticed one thing.

I love to read. I love to glean information. I love to write. I love to teach and impart. And I love to see people happy. In fact, I make it a point in my life to learn three new things daily. And over the years this desire to ‘know’ has catapulted me to understand so many things in my world.

Imagine, it is said of King Solomon…I’m looking now at the Amplified version.

1 King 4:29-34

29 Now God gave Solomon [exceptional] wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand of the seashore.

30 Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

31 For he was wiser than all [other] men, [wiser] than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. His fame was known in all the surrounding nations.

32 He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005.

33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar which is in Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and fish.

34 People came from all the peoples (nations) to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.

The man had exceptional wisdom. This means he ‘out wisdomed’ anyone that came before him. He also had great discernment. When wisdom and discernment work together, they become an amazing pair that is incomprehensible in our day. No wonder it is said of him, that his wisdom surpassed all the wisest men in the world at that time, and their names are given for reference for those who disbelieve.

Can you think he knew about everything around him? Of birds and trees, and animals and bees! Wow! And it says that people came just to be in his presence and hear him.

He was also a prolific writer, fantastic poet, and a great scientist. Solomon is credited with writing much of the book of Proverbs, the Song of Solomon, the book of Ecclesiastes, and two psalms. The passage above tells us he wrote 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.

King Solomon’s skills in architecture and management turned Israel into the showplace of the Middle East. As a diplomat, he made treaties and alliances that brought peace to his kingdom.

But again…the Bible says that to whom much is given, much is required.

Solomon’s downfall began when he married the daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh to seal a political alliance. He could not control his lust. Among Solomon’s 700 wives and 300 concubines were many foreigners, which angered God. The inevitable happened: They lured King Solomon away from His God into the worship of false gods. And over his 40-year reign, Solomon did many great things, but he succumbed to the temptations of lesser men.

So let me change my sentence. I wrote… “I have noticed that people who reach ‘on top’, whether they be chefs, artists, musicians or whatever, really enjoy what they do.”

But let me add a cautionary note here. We can enjoy what we do. And what we do will make us who we are. But we must be careful to note that we are only human, and in enjoying what we do, we also expose our weaknesses, and frailties. And in doing so, the real ‘inner’ man inside of us comes out to destroy all that we have built. It then becomes good history that has no foundational principles.

So, even though I enjoy doing what I love. I remember I am a fallen being who has sin lurking beneath me. That is why I constantly need to ‘realign’ myself to God’s standards and keep humble enough to be corrected.

Go ahead, enjoy life…but use caution!
