PRECIOUS LESSONS FROM THE POTTER’S HOUSE: BE SOFT

I don’t know if I ever shared with you how the Lord spoke to me one morning and told me to go to the potter’s house. We were living in Nagpur at that time, and I was familiar with the potters there.

In obedience I went to see the potter. And sat on an old stool next to him. To watch what the Lord would say to me. This potter was a very poor man who was extremely busy with a large order he had to make ‘kulhads’, a traditional Indian clay drinking pot, for ‘chai’ or other liquids.

So I waited for the Lord to speak to me. When He suddenly reminded me of the prophets in the OT.

The potter’s craft is really the oldest in the world, and their methods have hardly differed through the ages. Jeremiah as well as Isaiah refers to the potter and the clay. Please read.

Jer 18:1-4…1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

An amazing sight took place here. While the prophet was standing watching the potter, he saw him take a piece of wet clay from the lump that lay alongside him. He then placed this lump on the wheel, and then he began to shape it after a design which was in his mind. As the potter approached his accomplishment, the clay collapsed under his hands, some part of it falling on the ground, and some on the wheel itself. To Jeremiah’s surprise, the potter did not sweep the unmanageable wreckage away, but gathered them up, and made them again into another vessel of his choosing and design.

This is what God does still!

The Father, our Master Potter does not reject us when we get marred in the revolutions of life here on earth. The Potter gently takes the flawed and disfigured clay and fashions that to His unique design again.

I learned a lesson that day! The clay never lost its ‘wetness’.

This property allowed for that marred lump of clay to be placed on the wheel again. This is because, God never creates anything that has a flaw. You are perfectly fashioned, and fearfully designed for your unique call and work on the earth. The Master Potter will repeat the process until you come forth perfect.

Please let the Great Father work out His full purpose in your training, your unfolding, and your prayer-life specially, and you will find with Isaiah and Jeremiah, that eye hath not seen, nor ear has heard such an One as our God, who is able to do more than you can imagine.

So, hey! Be soft always. No matter what!
